1 - GLOSSARY OF ATTRIBUTION AND AUTHORSHIP

- by MAKER : The instrument or bow is, in our opinion, the work of the indicated maker.

- workshop of MAKER : The instrument or bow was, in our opinion, executed in the style of the indicated maker by an unknown assistant on the premises of, and most likely under the supervision of, the indicated maker.

- school of MAKER/REGION : The instrument or bow is, in our opinion, the work of one of the indicated maker’s followers or is in the style of instruments associated with the indicated region.

- labelled MAKER : (or “stamped”, “inscribed”, “branded”, etc) : The instrument or bow is not, in our opinion, the work of the indicated maker, but bears that maker's label or stamp.

2 - TRADE SECTION

Only "bone fide" professional dealers and instrument makers may access the "trade section" of this website using a login and password.
A login and password may be obtained upon request, providing sufficient details of the nature of your business, by completing our online application form on the “Contact Us” page or by sending your request via post or e-mail. Viaduct Violins reserves the right in its sole discretion to reject any request for access and to revoke access to registered members.

3 - INSTRUMENTS & BOWS GALLERY

The instruments and bows gallery presents a selection of our stock available for purchase.
Viaduct Violins sells only the most meticulously selected instruments and bows. This selection process is based on three main criteria :
- Authenticity
- Condition
- Best samples of a given maker's production.
A short but precise description of the instrument or bow, including condition, label, brands, and basic dimensions, is detailed in the lot’s notice. Complementary information can be provided upon request.

- About our stock : Many of our available instruments and bows are not displayed on our website, especially those ranging in price from 1,000 to 2,000 Euro. A comprehensive listing of these instruments and bows is available upon request.

When one can find the mention - "ON TEST", it means that the instrument or bow is presently on trial and not available for sale. If it becomes available again, this mention will be get off from the presentation text.

4 - ARCHIVES GALLERY

The photographs in these archives are selections from the photo archives of collectors, violin or bow maker colleagues, and from past Viaduct Violins sales.
The purpose of this Archive Gallery is not to exhibit rare or exceptional samples, but rather to show our clients the quality that Viaduct Violins is able to propose regularly. The Archive Gallery also affords our clients an overview of a particular maker’s production.

5 - MAKERS DICTIONNARY

The Makers Dictionary contains information about makers and their production as it relates to instruments or bows available for purchase in the Instruments Gallery or on view in the Archive Gallery. This Dictionary has been compiled from various sources of documentation, public and private, and reflects merely our company's opinion concerning the validity of such information. Information provided in the Makers Dictionary is strictly intended for the convenience of our clients.

6 - SET UP / UNSET UP

Instruments are available without set up (no bridge, no tail piece, no soundpost, no string ) but with buttons and pegs. Of course we can also deliver instruments completely set up, in which case the price of the set up is added onto the selling price.

7 - CERTIFICATE OF AUTHENTICITY

Most of the instruments and bows available through Viaduct Violins are accompanied by a certificate of authenticity without an additional fee.
These certificates provide a full description of the instrument including photos and measurements. Depending on the type of instrument, maker, or school, these certificates of authenticity are established by different recognized experts.
